On May 27, 2026, the Eighth Annual Conference of Government and Economics, co-hosted by the Society for the Analysis of Government and Economics (SAGE) along with Tsinghua University's School of Social Sciences and the Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT), was broadcasted online. Vice President and Member of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, Wang Hongwei, delivered opening remarks to welcome participants in attendance at the annual flagship conference.

Wang Hongwei, Vice President and Member of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, explained in his speech that “the English abbreviation for Tsinghua University's Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking is ‘ACCEPT,’ which means enabling the international community to accept China's system of ideas.” He further stated that “over the past eight years, the research institute has focused on developing an independent knowledge system based on China's own economic practices and with widespread applicability internationally, continuously striving to accumulate an array of highly influential and major research achievements over the long term.”
Wang observed that ACCEPT has always remained rooted in China's economic development practices, while concentrating on issues of strategic importance for the country’s national economic development in its approach to specific areas of policy research. The research institute has systematically summarized and distilled the development experiences and knowledge gathered over the course of China’s history, especially since its period of reform and opening up, deeply cultivating its theoretical research and policy discourse, and has successively published a series of monographs, research reports and other academic achievements on China’s economic theories and practice, steadily advancing the building of the country’s autonomous knowledge system in economics.
Wang emphasized that the “15th Five-Year Plan” period is a critical juncture to lay a solid foundation and make comprehensive efforts as China seeks to fundamentally realize its socialist modernization. It is also a pivotal moment for Tsinghua University to continue building on its legacy, focus on its continued progress and accelerate its rise to the forefront of world-class universities, while also representing a fresh starting point for the new century and a new journey for the fields of philosophy and social sciences at Tsinghua University.
“Tsinghua University will remain resolute in its support for the development of government and economics as a branch of learning. We hope that the institute can seize this historic opportunity, always take serving the country as its mission, promote the building of an independent knowledge system in economics, and persist in conducting internationally influential research, foster an international academic hub and enhance the reach of China’s global discourse, all while becoming a pioneer in reforming the discipline of economics in China and making concerted efforts to promote Tsinghua University as one of the forerunners in building an autonomous knowledge system in the fields of philosophy and social sciences,” he further remarked.
