Henan Normal University establishes Research Center for Government and Economics

On December 26, 2025, Henan Normal University successfully held an unveiling ceremony to inaugurate its Research Center for Government and Economics, in addition to convening the university's first academic seminar on government and economics. Experts and scholars from several of China’s renowned domestic universities and research institutions gathered together to exchange and share their latest research outcomes concerning collaborations in academic research, joint efforts in talent training, and the establishment of new avenues for cooperation, among other themes, which included Yang Yuzhen, Vice President of Henan Normal University; David Daokui Li, Director of Tsinghua University’s Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT); and Li Ke’aobo, Deputy Executive Director of ACCEPT, among many others in attendance.

The Research Center for Government and Economics aims to build a high-level academic platform for engaging in research on this field of study, promoting the multidisciplinary intersection and integration of economics, public administration, political science and other subjects, deeply exploring the theoretical development and real-world practices behind the relationship between government and the market economy, and providing concrete scholarly support and reference points for policymaking in order to advance the theoretical underpinnings of government and economics with Chinese characteristics in the new era and better facilitate high-quality economic development. Li offered up one sentence to summarize the discipline of government and economicsa—that is, to study the behavior of government in the modern market economy as well as the mechanisms and incentives behind such behavior. The discipline takes the readjustment of government incentives as its starting point, with its aim being to make a contribution to the high-quality development of the market economy.

Yang reiterated that the purpose behind Henan Normal University's move to establish its Research Center for Government and Economics is to make the relationship between efficient markets and effective governments more comprehensible. Moreover, while becoming a mainspring for engaging in theoretical research and building an independent knowledge system for Chinese economics, the Center will also prove to be instrumental in providing strategic value to policymaking at the national and local levels.
