Delegation from Tsinghua ACCEPT completes study and research tour of Jiangsu Province and Suzhou Municipality

On August 12, 2024, David Daokui Li, Director of Tsinghua University’s Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT), headed a delegation visiting Jiangsu Province on a study and research tour, and was received by Wu Qingwen, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China Suzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of the Suzhou Municipal People’s Government. Senior research fellows from Tsinghua ACCEPT, together with high-ranking delegation member Liu Peilin, joined Secretary-General of the Suzhou Municipal People’s Government Yu Yu alongside other attendees for formal discussions.

During the two-way exchange, Wu Qingwen extended a warm welcome to David Daokui Li and his entourage on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government, having expressed his gratitude to all of the attendees for their constant devotion, support and contribution towards the development of Suzhou. After a brief introduction to Suzhou's current state of economic and social development, Wu commented that at present, Suzhou is fully focused on implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches and directives on the work of Jiangsu and Suzhou, while remaining steadfast in pursuing the primary task of high-quality development, accelerating the establishment of new high-quality productive forces suited to local conditions, and resolutely advancing a new set of practices underpinning Chinese-style modernization. He further relayed his hopes that the Tsinghua ACCEPT delegation would undertake an in-depth survey and provide any guidance as appropriate, including offering constructive advice and assistance tackling critical areas and difficult issues associated with Suzhou's continued innovation and development, while rigorously undertaking all-round cooperation on industrial upgrading, consultations on policy measures and in other domains. Such engagements will help Suzhou better respond to risks and challenges, bringing into full play the dual roles of a more effective market and more responsive government, while accelerating the transformation of industrial innovation and the realization of high-quality development.

David Daokui Li pointed out that Suzhou is among the most economically dynamic cities in China, possessing a solid industrial foundation and shouldering the historical commitment to cultivate new high-quality productive forces. He further reiterated the significance of the research institute’s study and research tour, which yielded invaluable results. With an aim to producing a research report and delivering a point of reference for the central government’s future decision-making, Tsinghua ACCEPT has committed itself to undertake a timely survey synthesizing and summarizing the essential experiences and kernels of wisdom that have come to embody Suzhou's unique historical path towards development.
