45th Tsinghua University Forum on China and the World Economy featured in Guizhou Satellite TV's "Forum" talk show program discussing China's mid-year economic performance
In July, China’s National Bureau of Statistics released economic data for the first half of the year, with the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) having grown 5.5 percent year-on-year, which indicates a robust performance compared to last year’s modest 3.0% expansion, and up from the first quarter’s 4.5 percent year-on-year growth estimate. China’s economic growth remains well above that of major developed economies, demonstrating the strength and resiliency of its economic development.
The most recent meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee pointed out that the country’s economic situation faces new challenges, including most especially in the form of insufficient domestic demand, a difficult operating environment for certain enterprises, multiple underlying risks in key sectors, and a complex and grim external environment. Meanwhile, the current post-pandemic economic recovery is undergoing a process characterized by "wave-like" expansions and zigzag improvements.
Under such a backdrop, how to best go about expanding China’s domestic demand, increase the effectiveness of economic policies and promote the stable and healthy development of the country’s economy?
The 45th Tsinghua University Forum on China and the World Economy, hosted by Tsinghua University’s Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT), was featured in a special episode of Guizhou Satellite TV’s "Forum" talk show program broadcasted on July 30, 2023, entitled "Promoting Stable and Healthy Economic Development."
