CCWE Senior-level Academic Roundtable with US Fed Bernanke and White House CEA Romer

On May 25, 2010, Tsinghua University Center for China in the World Economy (CCWE)  hosted a senior-level internal roundtable discussion with visiting US Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, Dr. Christina Romer, Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) in the Obama Administration, and their senior colleagues. CCWE Director David Daokui Li moderated the session. Primary Chinese participants in the dialogue included leaders, experts, and faculty from Tsinghua SEM, Tsinghua Institution of International Studies, School of Public Policy and Management, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University School of Economics, Peking University Center for China Economic Research, and China International Capital Corporation Limited.

The dialogue and discussion focused on US economic recovery, Fed Reserve role and measures taken for the financial crisis, US fiscal challenges and monetary policy, clean energy and climate change, technology and industry innovation, academic contributions and their role in the policymaking process, and prospects for US-China cooperation.

Chairman  Bernanke and Chair Romer were among the US core members for the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue held in Beijing, May 24-25, 2010.

Prior to the academic session, Prof. Yuan Si, Vice President of Tsinghua University, and Mr. Xia Guangzhi, Associate Director in charge of the university's international affairs, greeted the US visiting guests and exchanged views with them.
